Matt Allen
College: Creighton University
Graduated: 2004
Honors:
Former Creighton men's soccer All-American Matt Allen has signed a three-year contract to play professional soccer in Norway. The Arsenal Soccer Club Alumni and record-setting goalkeeper for the Bluejays over the last four years, has signed on with a team based in Bryne.
Allen, who was drafted in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft last month by the Los Angeles Galaxy, concluded his outstanding collegiate career in December. Named a third-team All-American by College Soccer News, Allen is the only player in Missouri Valley Conference history to twice be named the conference Defensive Player of the Year. He established school career records with 26 shutouts and 6,531 minutes played and ranks second in CU career history with 43 wins, 260 saves and 0.83 goals against average.
During the 2007 season, he played all 1,930 minutes in net for the Bluejays, with a 12-3-5 record, 75 saves, seven shutouts and a 0.79 goals against average. The Jays advanced to their 16th straight NCAA Tournament in 2007 and finished 12-3-5.
Allen becomes the second Bluejay in as many years to move on to professional soccer in Europe. Last year Pietari Holopainen signed a contract with FC Haka in his native Finland.
