In 1981 it was a dream of local Millard families to start an alternative sports program in the Millard area that would promote and allow the hundreds of youth, both Boys & Girls, in the quickly expanding Millard area, a chance to participate in a sports program other then the exclusive small town options that were available at that time – baseball, football and basketball.

The goal was to make it fun and educational and hopefully make Soccer an accepted local sport and long term objective, a Millard High School Sport.   We removed keeping score at the younger ages and tried to concentrate on skill levels and team play.  We had an in house sports league while also offering competitive travel teams.  We held training clinics for kids and coaches and we offered State Certification training programs for coaches & referees.

The Association felt that it was all for the kids, we had donated fields that were mowed and striped for all games, there were donated goals which had nets on them, there were paid referees at all games and the coaches were given soccer balls so each kid would have a ball at practice.  Each kid was given a full uniform (shirts, shorts and socks), so when they showed up for a game they looked and felt like part of the team.  There were team pictures and 8 local games per season, all that for an entry fee of $17.95

To see where the Millard Star is today and where we started, we are beaming with pride!  We say congratulations and thanks to all those that kept the ball rolling and continued forward, where we left it some 17 years ago.  Now our grandchildren participate in the Association and we enjoy coming to the games and watching them and all the other children and parents experiencing our dream, The Millard Star Soccer Association.

In 1986 Pam Sweeney and her family moved to Omaha and became involved in the club as a volunteer helping with team formation.  In 1987 Pam became a part time staff member which has now grown into a full time position with the organization.

After some growth in the program an agreement was made with an SID for the playing fields now annexed by the City of Omaha called the Discovery Soccer Complex at 136 & Q Street.  The area was simply marked off for play and did not included actual field designations or grading.  The improvements to the area were made in the early 1990’s when the SID was annexed by the City of Omaha.  During the construction of the fields, games were moved to Rockwell Elementary and Central Middle School.

In 1995 Alex Mason moved to Gretna from England.  Alex spent the balance of 1995 rolling out a program for select players, known today as Arsenal Select.

1997 saw additional growth of the programs in Millard Star and the purchase of land location on 156 Street between Harrison & Giles Rd.   The land was developed into 6 game fields of varying sizes fully irrigated and lighted; the only lighted complex in the state.

The dream continued when in 2003 land was purchased and an indoor facility was developed at 147 & Giles Rd.  Today the facility is home to  ___ state championship teams and those following in their footsteps of success.  The Omaha Sports Complex hosts a myriad of events in addition to sporting events and training.

Currently the club has 2,300 members, 6 full-time employees, multiple part-time employees, and 100's of volunteers.

What will the next 25 years hold for the program??  As a member, you are helping write history.
