SHOOTING & FINISHING
ATTITUDE
All players must be coached that taking the shot is the most important factor. Once the shot has been taken we, as coaches will determine how a player will or will not progress as a player. Failing to praise the shot can be very harmful to a player. Players should always be praised for taking the shot regardless of the outcome.
TECHNICAL POINTS
The most important part of shooting is the players technique. Players must be put into positions where they perfect the correct technique around the goal area. There are different types of shots, Toe, Push, Driven, Lofted, Chip, Swerve and Flick.
1. Observe the position of the goalkeeper.
2. Select most vulnerable area of the goal to aim at.
3. Concentrate on accuracy.
4. Keep head down and steady, eyes on the ball.
5. Position of non-kicking foot.
6. Correct contact on the ball.
COACHING THE PLAYER
Points to be aware of:
1. The fear of shooting. (Psychological and Physically)
2. First time shot.
3. Lack of vision.
4. Lack of speed.
5. Speed of thought.
6. Constructive criticism.
7. Attacking the ball.
8. Rebounds.
